Safe Futures Grant Program - Scoping Grant Application Form

Please read this section in full before continuing

It is important that you take the time to read through the below information before you begin your application.  Applications for the Safe Futures Scoping Grants will close at 5:00pm on 14 August 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Grant Objectives

Safe Futures will fund community organisations to design, implement and evaluate community-led primary prevention initiatives that challenge violence-supportive attitudes and behaviours in their community.

Activities funded through Safe Futures must employ a community-led approach, ensuring the people, groups and communities impacted by these initiatives are actively involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the project.

It is intended that projects delivered through Safe Futures will address the drivers of violence that are prevalent in the community, will consider the intersectionality of these drivers and forms of inequality and discrimination, will maximise the benefits of partnerships, and will seek to address the drivers of violence in a wide range of settings.

Scoping Grant funding

This Scoping Grant offers up to $30,000 to support activities that identify a need for community-led programs in a community, and to prepare an application for a Delivery Grant. This may be achieved through community engagement, and relationship and capacity building activities.

This grant is intended to support smaller community-based organisations. Scoping Grant funding will be offered for a period of three months, before Delivery Grants are open for application in January 2027.

A Scoping Grant can help you work out if there is a need for primary prevention initiatives in your community by funding you to work with your community to determine:

  • your community’s attitudes and values towards the underlying drivers of violence
  • what your community wants to achieve through a Delivery Grant
  • the commitment of the community to the project.

Through a Scoping Grant, you may:

  • identify and start working with a suitable eligible partner for your proposed delivery project
  • build your organisation’s capability to develop your proposal for a Delivery Grant
  • build the cultural capability of a prospective partner for a Delivery Grant
  • gather data and information to support your Delivery Grant application.

The types of expenses that may be suitable under a Scoping Grant include:

  • a contractor, consultant or project officer to support research, analysis or development of an application for Delivery Grant
  • activities to support community engagement, consultation and research, including events
  • professional development training and support that contribute towards organisational capability building in matters such as writing grant applications, organisational governance, and leadership
  • technical services to support development of a Delivery Grant application, including writing, accounting, and community engagement and consultation.

Your Scoping Grant activities will help you to discover information that you can include in a Delivery Grant application.

Important notes:

  • you do not need to apply for a Scoping Grant to be eligible to apply for a Delivery Grant
  • successful applicants may be offered full or partial grant funding
  • applications involving more than one organisation should be made jointly. For joint applications between more than one organisation, a lead must be identified and a single application made on behalf of the consortia.
